A warm shower helps to fall asleep easily?

Does warm water induce sleep?

The study proved that “ Warm Shower” or “ Warm Bath” before going to bed can induce sleep and improve its quality. The reason is that while we have a warm bath, our body is relaxed causing the autonomic nervous system to rebalance, better blood circulation, and muscle relaxation. Moreover, when you bathe with warm water, your body temperature will increase. After you finish bathing, the body temperature will slowly decrease. This decreased temperature stimulates “melatonin” secretion from the pineal gland in the brain causing easy sleep.

Moreover, when your body becomes relaxed after a warm bath, it improves sleep quality. Here are the tips for a warm bath before going to bed.

  1. Should take a warm bath at least 1-2 hours before going to bed.
  2. Water temperature should be between 40 to 43 degrees Celsius. The bath duration should be more than 10 minutes.
  3. After a warm bath, do not shower with cold water because it stimulates the autonomic nervous system again causing awakening instead of sleepiness.
